Audience:

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot the client-server database management system of Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000. Course 2072 is a revision of Course 832, System Administration for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. The course content is being revised to reflect changes in the product.

 

 

This course is intended for IT professionals who will administer SQL 2000 organizations. There is no database design in this class.

This course will help the student prepare for the following Microsoft Certified Professional exams:

    Exam 70-228, System Administration for Microsoft SQL Server 2000

 

The basic SQL 2000 Administration class.

Topics Covered:

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

ü        Describe SQL Server architecture.

ü        Plan for a SQL Server installation and then install.

ü        Manage files and databases, including determining resource requirements.

ü        Choose a login security method, configure login security, plan and implement database permissions, and describe how to secure SQL Server in an enterprise network.

ü        Perform and automate administrative tasks and create custom administrative tools.

ü        Back up databases and implement a backup strategy.

ü        Restore databases.

ü        Monitor and optimize SQL Server performance.

ü        Transfer and migrate data into databases.

ü        Maintain the high availability of SQL Server.

ü        Replicate data from one SQL Server to another.

Prerequisites:

Experience using Windows 2000 to: 

 

ü        Connect Windows 2000 clients to networks and the Internet.

ü        Configure the Windows 2000 environment and create and manage user accounts.

ü        Manage access to resources by using groups.

ü        Configure and manage disks and partitions, including disk striping and mirroring.

ü        Manage data by using NTFS.

ü        Implement Windows 2000 security.

 

Additional Prerequisites:

For students who do not meet the previous prerequisites:

 

Completion of MS-2151,

Completion of MS-2152,

 

 

An understanding of basic relational database concepts, including:

ü        Logical and physical database design.

ü        Data integrity concepts.

ü        Relationships between tables and columns (primary key and foreign key, one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many).

ü        How data is stored in tables (rows and columns).


For students who do not meet these prerequisites, the following course provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills:

 

Completion of MS-1609,

 


 

Knowledge of basic Transact-SQL syntax (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements).
