This course provides students with the knowledge and
skills required to install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot the
client-server database management system of Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000.
Course 2072 is a revision of Course 832, System Administration for
Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. The course content is being revised to reflect
changes in the product. |

This course is intended for IT professionals who will administer SQL 2000 organizations. There is no database design in this class. |

Topics Covered: By the end of this
course, the student should be able to: ü
Describe SQL Server architecture. ü
Plan for a SQL Server installation and then install.

Manage files and databases, including determining
resource requirements. ü
Choose a login security method, configure login
security, plan and implement database permissions, and describe how to secure
SQL Server in an enterprise network. ü
Perform and automate administrative tasks and create
custom administrative tools. ü
Back up databases and implement a backup strategy. ü
Restore databases. ü
Monitor and optimize SQL Server performance. ü
Transfer and migrate data into databases. ü
Maintain the high availability of SQL Server. ü
Replicate data from one SQL Server to another. Prerequisites: Experience using Windows 2000 to: ü
Connect Windows 2000 clients to networks and the
Internet. ü
Configure the Windows 2000 environment and create
and manage user accounts. ü
Manage access to resources by using groups. ü
Configure and manage disks and partitions,
including disk striping and mirroring. ü
Manage data by using NTFS. ü
Implement Windows 2000 security. |

Prerequisites: For students who do not meet the previous prerequisites: Completion of MS-2151, Completion of MS-2152,
An understanding of basic relational database concepts,
including: ü
Logical and physical database design. ü
Data integrity concepts. ü
Relationships between tables and columns (primary
key and foreign key, one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many). ü
How data is stored in tables (rows and columns).
Completion of MS-1609,
Knowledge of basic Transact-SQL syntax (SELECT, INSERT,
UPDATE, and DELETE statements). Completion of MS-2071,
Familiarity with the role of the database administrator. |
